The efe port you are talking about is on early model blocks that typically have small oil galleys also.

EFE PORT???
There is a heater fitting there on the 68 - 70 blocks. It is a 3/8" pipe thread into the block

Marty, I think it was used for controlling the EFE valve on the later engines.
At least it was some sort of thermal vacuum switch on the 425.

But yeah, on the early engines it was the heater outlet. Guess they decided to use the same location later when the added EFE, and start drilling the hole again.
