Author Topic: Ford Crown Victoria wants a Caddy motor  (Read 4408 times)

I bought this 96 Crown Victoria Ex Cop car for $200. It has a bad engine. I want to install a Cadillac engine and use it for drag racing and Saturday night cruising. My goal is to run Et's of 12.99 or better. I want this car to remain stock in outer appearance. I have found a donor car. It is a 1968 Cadillac with a 472. It runs good and drives for $400. I really wanted to use the 500 c.i. engine but this one is cheap. This is a very low budget project. These Ford cop cars were available with 3.55 rear gearing. Should I buy the 68 Cadillac because it has the small chamber heads and higher compression or should I keep looking for a 500? Most of the 500's that I find are in Eldorados so those transmissions won't work. The Fords have a rear sump oil pan so I thought the RWD Caddy would swap best.Any input will be appreciated. Thanks

Should be a fairly simple build they have a very similar, if not the same, as a 96up mustang.

RWD cads have front sump pans, while the FWD cads have the rear sump pans.

Don't get too hung up on the 472 vs 500 thing.  They both have more grunt than most anything else you've ever driven, most likely.  Especially when dropped into a lighter body.

I'd scoop up the '68 for $400, if I were you.

As JM pointed out you will need and Eldo pan or a fabricated rear sump one from one of us vendors
